How to Overcome Math Anxiety with the Right Support
Overcoming math anxiety can seem like an uphill battle for many. However, with the right approach and a supportive teacher, both students and their parents can conquer their fear.
Homeschooling has become a popular option for parents across the country, and many families have turned to TabletClass.com for their math curriculum. As the founder of TabletClass, I am proud of the success our team has achieved in helping families learn and master math.
However, there is one thing that saddens me about homeschooling: the prevalence of math anxiety among parents and children.
A Sad Story Too Common With Parents and Math
It’s common for homeschooling parents to tell me that they struggled with math as children and always believed they were “bad” at it. They often passed this anxiety on to their own children.
But after using TabletClass, they finally understand math and feel confident in their ability to learn. This newfound enthusiasm for math spreads to their children, and the entire family is energized to tackle new challenges.
The sad part is that many of these parents suffered from math anxiety for years, and if they had a great math teacher who made them feel confident about themselves, their story could have been different.
People are often limited by their perception of their skills and talents. As the saying goes, “if you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”
I want to help young people escape a life of math anxiety and help widen their opportunities and dreams.
In today’s global technical economy, strong math skills are more important than ever, and parents should strive to find the best curriculum, teachers, and programs to develop their children’s skills and self-confidence.
Confronting Math Anxiety to Break the Cycle
The good news is that it’s never too late to overcome math anxiety and learn math. One inspiring example is Gordon, a 60-year-old retired plumber from California. Gordon signed up for TabletClass and started with Pre-Algebra, working on the course for a year until he understood the material. He then moved on to Algebra 1 and Geometry and did great. He continued with Algebra 2 and did even better.
After three years of taking TabletClass courses, Gordon was on fire and wanted to keep learning math, so he enrolled in a Calculus class at his local community college. He did excellent in Calculus, and according to him, it was the change in his perception that he could learn math that opened up a whole new world.
Final Thoughts
So whether you’re a homeschooling parent trying to provide the best education for your child or an adult looking to improve your own math skills, it’s important to believe in yourself and set exciting goals.
Don’t let your past experiences limit your potential. Take inspiration from Gordon’s story and go for it. With the right mindset and resources, you too can overcome math anxiety, master math, and open up a whole new world of possibilities.
Remember, life is all about learning, and it’s never too late to start.
