How to Pass the ASVAB Math Test & Get the Highest Score Possible

Are you interested in joining the military, but feel unsure about your ability to pass the ASVAB Math test? No worries, you’ve come to the right place!

Even if you weren’t great at math in high school you can still do well on the ASVAB Math Test. You just need the right study aid to get you on track to pass the ASVAB math exam. But, before we go over the Best Way To Prepare for the ASVAB Math Test – how much do you know about the actual ASVAB Math Test?

What Is the ASVAB Test and How Do You to Take It?

The ASVAB Test, short for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, is a United States military aptitude test used to assess the readiness and eligibility of potential recruits for military service.

There are 2 ways or versions of the ASVAB Test you could take. There is a paper-and-pencil version and the other is the Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) version. The CAT version of the ASVAB Test is adaptive, meaning that it adjusts to an examinee’s proficiency level as they progress through each question.

By taking either version of this test, the examinee must demonstrate that they meet the minimum requirements of proficiency in each subtest, or section, of the ASVAB test.

How is the ASVAB Test Scored?

The ASVAB test consists of ten subtests, or sections, and is used in two ways.

  1. Scores from all of the ASVAB subtests are used to identify which job would be most suitable for your interests and abilities.
  2. Four of the subtests are combined and used to determine eligibility for enlistment in Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps. This part of the ASVAB test is referred to as the Armed Forces Qualification Test, or AFQT for short. The AFQT is scored on a scale of 1-99, with 99 being the best possible score. The 4 subtests used for AFQT are: Word Knowledge (WK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), Arithmetic Reasoning (AR) and Mathematics Knowledge (MK).

Yes, 2 of these sections are math related. The good news is that there are some things you can do to prepare for the math test and increase your chance of getting high scores.

What’s the Best and Most Efficient Way to Prepare for the ASVAB Math Test?

The answer is simple: the best way to study math is to learn directly from an experienced math teacher that can explain math in a way you like and understand! No one can teach you math better than an actual math teacher, as teaching math every day is their profession!  Of course, it’s almost impossible to find a good math teacher that will sit down and re-teach you everything you learned (or did not learn) in high school math one-on-one…..but fortunately, there is a something that’s just as good!
